StoryChief’s $69 lifetime tier covers one workspace, one user, 25 articles a month, 6 social channels and 8,000 AI credits. Starter, the cheapest subscription, costs $59 a month and includes 4 channels but 15,000 credits. The lifetime tier trades AI credits for social channels.
The deal is live, carries the 60-day guarantee, and pays for itself in about five weeks. The limits need the attention here, not the price.
The short version
- Tier 1 is $69 for 1 workspace, 1 user, 25 articles a month, 6 social channels, 8,000 AI credits a month and 5 email broadcasts.
- It is not the Starter plan made permanent. Starter gives 15,000 AI credits a month and only 4 channels.
- Image and video generation sits behind a separate AI add-on at $60 a month per workspace, so a recurring cost survives the one-time purchase.
- Cost per workspace falls as you stack, from $69 at one tier to $46.60 at four. That is unusual on these deals.
What the $69 tier includes, against the cheapest subscription
The comparison that matters is the lifetime tier against the plan you would otherwise pay for, which is Starter at $59 a month billed yearly. Side by side, the deal reads as a different bundle rather than a discounted Starter.

| Allowance | AppSumo Tier 1, $69 once | Starter subscription, $59 a month |
|---|---|---|
| Workspaces | 1 | 1 |
| Users | 1 | 1, up to 3 with paid extras |
| Articles a month | 25 | 25 |
| Social channels | 6 | 4 |
| AI credits a month | 8,000 | 15,000 |
| Email broadcasts a month | 5 | Not included |
| Tracked AI prompts | 0 | 0 |
| Ongoing cost | None | $708 a year |
Two rows move in opposite directions. The lifetime tier adds two social channels and five email broadcasts, which Starter omits entirely, and cuts the monthly AI credit allowance from 15,000 to 8,000.
Whether that trade works depends on how you use the tool. Publishing to six destinations and writing by hand comes out ahead. Leaning on the AI writing features runs the credits down at roughly twice the pace.
Where the four tiers differ
Four tiers are listed on AppSumo. Workspaces, users and articles climb at each step, and AI credits climb more slowly.

| Tier | Price | Workspaces | Users | Articles a month | Social channels | AI credits a month | Cost per workspace |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $69 | 1 | 1 | 25 | 6 | 8,000 | $69.00 |
| 2 | $179 | 2 | 5 | 50 | 8 | 15,000 | $89.50 |
| 3 | $349 | 7 | 7 | 75 | 10 | 20,000 | $49.86 |
| 4 | $699 | 15 | 15 | 100 | 15 | 25,000 | $46.60 |
The right-hand column is the part worth pausing on. Tier 2 is the worst value per workspace at $89.50, and the figure then drops to $46.60 at Tier 4. Most stacked deals we have measured hold a flat discount across tiers, so a falling per-workspace cost is a real difference rather than marketing.
The AI credits move differently. Tier 1 to Tier 4 multiplies workspaces by fifteen and credits by about three, and the listing states allowances per workspace. An agency on Tier 4 therefore gets 25,000 credits per client, not a shared pool.
Image and video generation is not in the deal
The listing names image and video generation as an in-app add-on. StoryChief’s own pricing page puts a figure on it: the AI add-on costs $60 a month per workspace, or $45 a month billed yearly, which switches image and video generation on. It also adds 50,000 credits and 20 tracked prompts.
A lifetime licence with a $540-a-year add-on attached for a headline feature is the pattern we described in our piece on what AppSumo listings leave out, where SendFox puts branding removal behind $10 a month.
The vendor does publish a way around it. One-time AI credit packs never expire, at $25 for 10,000 credits, $60 for 25,000 and $120 for 50,000, so topping up avoids the subscription. Whether packs alone switch on image generation, or only extend credits, is not stated. Settle that inside the refund window.
How fast the $69 pays for itself
Starter billed yearly is $59 a month, or $708 for the year. A one-time $69 covers a little over a month of that, which puts break-even at about five weeks.
| What you would pay instead | Annual cost | Break-even on $69 |
|---|---|---|
| Starter, billed yearly | $708 | About 5 weeks |
| Starter, billed monthly at $69 | $828 | About 1 month |
| Growth, billed yearly | $3,348 | About 1 week |
Five weeks is the fastest break-even we have calculated on this site. The method behind that number, and why the struck-through price is the wrong figure to divide by, is set out in our piece on calculating a real break-even month.
That assumes you would genuinely have paid for Starter every month. If the tool sits unused, the break-even month never arrives at any price.
Two terms worth reading before you buy
The deal terms carry two conditions that are easy to miss and awkward to discover late.
Activation within 60 days. The licence has to be activated within 60 days of purchase. Buying now to set up next quarter does not work.
No switching from a subscription. Existing recurring StoryChief subscribers cannot move onto a lifetime licence. If you already pay monthly, this deal is closed to you.
On the reassuring side, the listing shows the purchase as refundable up to 60 days and covered by AppSumo’s own guarantee rather than a partner-managed arrangement. The underlying economics of why a vendor offers any of this are covered in the economics of SaaS lifetime deals.
Frequently asked questions
Is the StoryChief AppSumo deal still available?
Yes, as of 20 October 2026 the listing shows buy controls across all four tiers and carries AppSumo’s 60-day money-back guarantee. Deals do end without notice, so check the current listing before you buy rather than trusting any review’s date.
How many AI credits does the $69 tier give?
8,000 a month per workspace. The Starter subscription at $59 a month gives 15,000, so the lifetime tier provides roughly half. The listing does not state what one credit buys, which is worth testing inside the refund window.
Does the lifetime deal include image and video generation?
No. The listing lists image and video generation as an in-app add-on. StoryChief’s own pricing puts it behind an AI add-on at $60 a month per workspace, or $45 a month billed yearly, which is a recurring cost on a one-time purchase.
How long until the $69 tier pays for itself?
About five weeks. Starter billed yearly works out at $59 a month, so $69 one-time covers a little over one month of subscription. That is among the fastest break-even points we have calculated on a lifetime deal.
Can existing StoryChief subscribers switch to the lifetime deal?
No. The deal terms state that existing recurring subscribers cannot move to a lifetime licence. The terms also require the licence to be activated within 60 days of purchase, so buying it to hold for later does not work.
Bottom line
At five weeks to break-even the price is close to irrelevant, so the decision rests on the credit allowance and the add-on. Six channels and 8,000 credits suits someone writing by hand and publishing widely, and Tier 3 at $49.86 per workspace is where agency buyers should look.
